Antibiotics Vs. Probiotics

Standard antibiotic treatments carry with them many risks. Along with infectious bacteria, they kill off friendly, beneficial and wanted microorganisms, often called "good" or "helpful" bacteria, as they help keep the gastrointestinal tract healthy.

In this way antibiotics create major disturbances in the bodily microflora, and therefore in our health. They also commonly contribute to the development of so-called antibiotic-resistant bacteria, that is pathogens not controlled or killed by antibiotics. These germs are able to survive the antibiotic treatments and even further multiply causing more harm.

Prolonged use of antibiotics often leads to nasty yeast infections, especially in women, caused by Canadia albicans. As the friendly gut bacteria are killed off along with the pathogenic bacteria, the antibiotic-insensitive yeast can then grow out of control.

The list of the hazards of antibiotics goes on an on.

Although the term “probiotic” contrasts etymologically with “antibiotic, it is not a complete antonym. The word is derived from Latin and Greek, and literally means "for life."

Probiotics are found in fermented foods such as yogurt, sauerkraut, and kefir. Fortunately, many of these foods are still of great importance to the people's diets around the world.

Surprisingly enough, we still do not know exactly what probiotics are, when and why they should be used, and who needs them. So let's clear up a little bit of the confusion, especially about the supplemental probiotics.

Supplemental Probiotics

Scientists have found a way to freeze-dry beneficial, probiotics bacteria and put them in tablets, capsules, powders, and sachets. Unfortunately, when taken orally these microorganisms can be destroyed by the acidic conditions of the stomach. For this reason, a number of microencapsulation techniques have been developed to address this problem.

As the human gut may contain several hundred microbial species, many supplemental probiotics contain multiple probiotic strains, as opposed to a single strain.

Usually, the specific microorganisms found in the dietary supplements are lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, which are the major probiotics found in the human intestinal tract.

According to clinical research, dietary probiotics promote and increase proper, healthy "gut flora" and stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and systemic immunity. An imbalance of unhealthy and healthy microbes in the intestines may contribute to weight gain, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and other disorders. Therefore, supplemental probiotics has been shown to have many health benefits.

However, like everything else, not all supplements are created equal. The results then can vary from "amazing" to just "okay."

Only quality probiotic supplements offer measurable health benefits as they are able to support:

  • the immune and urologic system,
  • the digestive system (by adhering to the cells of the intestinal wall without damaging it),
  • regularity of the bowel movement.

They should also be suitable for individuals who are lactose intolerant.

As the efficacy of probiotic supplements is based solely on the number of live organisms present, successful results are attained by taking the minimum of 50 billion viable bacteria per day.

Despite the “absence of good [read: medical] evidence”, one of the best-documented applications of probiotic supplements is in the prevention, management and treatment of infection and/or inflammation of the urinary tract.

UT ProbioticsUltra Strength

It is easy to be fooled by very low-priced probiotic dietary supplements. Usually, many are made from cheap, unhealthy synthetic ingredients.

Here are the key factors that make UT ProbioticsUltra different from other probiotic formulas:

  • It is nondairy and multi-strain to best mimic normal human flora.
  • It contains 9 species of microorganisms from nondairy sources. Because each strain has an affinity for a different part of the digestive tract, and a unique mechanism of action, a product that delivers multiple strains is preferable to single strain products.
  • It is guaranteed to contain 52.5 billion CFUs of microorganisms in each vegetarian capsule.
  • It contains added Fructooligosaccharides (FOS), a soluble fiber and prebiotic that selectively supports the proliferation of intestinal probiotics for digestive tract health.
  • It is safe for daily use.
  • It is both acid-resistant and bile acid-resistant as it remains alive at a pH range of 3.0 - 7.0.
  • It is capable of reaching their site of action within the gastrointestinal tract by surviving the acid environment of the stomach (where pH can fall to below 3), the actions of bile acids present in the intestines which can destroy many microorganisms.
  • It can survive then transit through the stomach, especially when it is consumed with other food.

How to Take It

Recommended Dosage

I. Preventively/Prophylactically

If you have a history of urinary tract infections*, or if you are prone to urinary tract infections

  • Take 1 capsule twice daily on regular bases, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.

Warning:

If pregnant or nursing, consult your healthcare practitioner before taking it.

*For 25 percent to 30 percent of women who have had a urinary tract infection, the infection returns within six months.

II. Therapeutically

While and/or after taking Uribiotic Formula**

  • Take 2 capsules 3 times daily for at least 3 weeks.

Warning:

If pregnant or nursing, consult your healthcare practitioner before taking it.

III. After Receiving Antibiotics

Once again, the biggest disadvantage of taking antibiotics is that while killing uropathogenic bacteria, they do not heal the urinary tract after the infection is gone. Even more, they often promote the growth of drug-resistant strains.

Therefore, after receiving a single course of antibiotics and in the face of compromised urinary tract function, the healing and prophylactic dosage should be administered as follows:

  • Take 2 capsules 3 times daily for 5 days; therefore, for optimal healing and prophylactic benefits, at least 2 bottles of UT ProbioticsUltra are needed.

After receiving multiple courses of antibiotics and in the face of severely compromised urinary tract function, the healing and prophylactic dosage should be administered and follows:

  • Take 2 capsules 3 times daily for 10 days; therefore, for optimal healing and prophylactic benefits, at least 4 bottles of UT ProbioticsUltra are needed.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you have a long history of taking pharmaceutical antibiotics you must take probiotics for at least 3 consecutive months. This is the minimum time needed to completely restore and re-establish the body’s beneficial microflora damaged and/or killed by prescription drugs.

For Optimal Results

Although UT ProbioticsUltra can be taken as a stand-alone, for optimal results, particularly in case of chronic UTIs, it should be taken in combination with:

Description of Ingredients

Lactobacilli***

L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, L. casei, L. salivarius are located in the small intestine and produce lactic acid. Many strains of bacteria from the Lactobacillus family have been shown to support urogenital and vaginal health, regularity, production of the lactase enzymes and protect the gut lining from unwanted materials.

L. acidophilus helps to inhibit some types of detrimental bacteria by:

  • Stimulating the production of endogenous antibiotics(Bacteriocins),
  • Lowering bodily pH,
  • Stimulating the production of organic acids such as lactic acid and acetic acid,
  • Competing with detrimental bacteria for nutrients deconjugating bile acids.

L. acidophilus can inhibit such detrimental bacteria as:

  • E. coli
  • H. pylori
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Salmonella
  • Shigella dysenteriae
  • Shigella sonnei
  • Staphylococcus aureus

L. acidophilus primarily colonizing the small intestine helps:

  • Alleviate constipation in up to 90% of people afflicted with chronic constipation cure some cases of diarrhea by re-establishing the flora of the intestine eliminate flatulence.
  • Prevent gastric ulcers by inhibiting detrimental bacteria Helicobacter pylori implicated in gastric ulcers.
  • Eliminate intestinal parasites.
  • Alleviate some of the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Increase the absorption and bioavailability of dietary iron.
  • Facilitate the production of vitamin K within the intestines.

Substances that interfere with L. acidophilus:

  • Microorganisms such as Candida albicans (detrimental yeasts) may kill L. acidophilus.
  • Pharmaceutical antibiotics; however, supplemental L. acidophilus can re-establish the endogenous L. acidophilus that are killed by antibiotics.
  • Recreational drugs such as alcohol (ethanol) may destroy L. acidophilus.

PLEASE NOTE:

Garlic is known to stimulate the growth of L. acidophilus. Therefore, its function can be enhanced by supplemental garlic.

L. rhamnosus***

L. rhamnosus helps to accelerate the removal from the body of detrimental bacteria - single-celled microscopic organisms that are capable of exerting toxic effects on the body. By adhering to the cells of the intestinal wall without damaging it, L. rhamnosus helps:

  • Reverse intestinal permeability (also called leaky gut).
  • Alleviate colitis (inflammation of the colon) and Crohn's disease (chronic inflammatory bowel disease).
  • Prevent and treat diarrhea.

By adhering to the cells of the intestinal wall without damaging it, L. rhamnosus helps:

L. salivarius***

It is a strain of beneficial bacteria that has been shown to resist low pH conditions. It has also been shown to support immune system function by modulating certain cytokines (IL-10 and IL-12).

In vitro studies have shown that L. salivarius strongly adheres to human epithelial cell lines. This interaction with the mucosa demonstrates its support of the intestinal immune system.

Bifidobacteria***

B. breve, B. longum, B. bifidum are located in the colon and produce acetic acid, making the gut a very inhospitable place for unwanted materials. Bifidobacteria have been shown to promote regularity.

Streptococcus thermophilus***

It is a lactic acid producer, which lines the gut wall to provide a barrier from unwanted materials, promotes regularity and produces the lactase enzyme.

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS)***

They are considered a soluble fiber and prebiotic, which supports the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal tract.

Back to normal

Dear Uribiotic Team,

I have had recurrent UTIs for the past few years and my doctor usually just gives me Bactrim, which clears it up within 3 days. While on vacation recently I got another one the first day of my trip and panicked because the pain always seems unbearable.

I was able to get another prescription for Bactrim, but after 2 doses (6 days) I felt even worse. Two weeks later and 2 courses of Cipro later I was at my wits end!

My doctor told me there weren’t any bacteria in my urine so it could be something else like urethritis or interstitial cystitis. I didn’t care what it was, I just wanted to get rid of it and prevent it from ever coming back.

In desperation I went online and researched as much as I could. I found your website and it has been a life-saver. I started feeling better after the first couple days of taking the Uribiotic Formula. And after the second bottle, I was back to normal.

I couldn’t believe how fast it worked, and that there were no side effects, like with antibiotics. Since then I’ve also started taking your d-Mannose MAX and UT ProbioticsUltra formulas for prevention. I haven’t had any UTI symptoms since.

Thank you so much for your very informative website and very effective natural products.

Healed from head to toe!

Let me start off by saying (and please keep in mind that I rarely submit feedbacks) that I had to send in this positive opinion on Uribiotic Formula and UT ProbioticsUltra. These two paired up equal excellence!

Where do I begin. After having a UTI on and off for way too long that I was never able to cure naturally (stayed away from antibiotics), didn’t know what to do next. The infection travelled by body from head to toe. I’m talking strep sore throat almost every month before my monthly cycle, on and off burning sensation when urinating, occasional fevers and chills. On top of that indigestion issues such as belching, gas, low stomach acid, you name it. I could not live like this any longer.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Uribiotic and UT ProbioticsUltra have healed me from head to toe!

I decided to search the web from top to bottom. Fell on the Uribiotic website and was intrigued by the product right away. I’m willing to invest, I thought. My health has been bad for too long, I said to myself.

It has been only one week, but after a few days, my urine is clearer and the burning sensation has decreased by a lot. My strep throat/sore throat is totally gone. Indigestion issues have improved significantly.

Ladies, even my monthly cycle is a breeze!! No cramps!! I am sold and sad that I did not order more bottles. What was I thinking?!

All I can say is: give it a try!!
